Week 5 Thing 12

Week 5 Thing 11

So the site I chose to explore from the Web 2.0 awards was I really like this site because it allows you to type in the name of a band you like and then provides you with a list of similar bands that you would probably also enjoy. I typed in my favorite band "the honorary title" and sure enough most of the bands (75%) that came up were also bands I already listen to. I also like that this site list the events or shows in which the band will be playing. In addition, this site allows you to create a profile and share music with others. When I have more time I will probably create one and add all the music I like to it. I also like the fact that you can listen to music on this site. When you type in the band you like the site plays music from other bands that are similar and lets you rate whether you like it or not. I don't really see how this site could benefit the library that much, except maybe in the selection of the purchasing of CDs.

Week 4 Thing 9

For this exercise I used some of the search tools listed to locate RSS feeds. However, I didn't find them very helfpul because every time I typed in something a lot of the results that would come up where unrelated. However, out of feedster,, syndic8, and technorati, I think technorati was the best one. I found it might just be easier to go to the websites I usually visit and see if they have the rss symbol and add them if they do, rather than wasting time using these search tools. I did this with one such website that provides daily updates and recaps for soap operas. I like this site because it lets me keep up to date with what's going on in my favorite soap General Hospital.

Week 4 Thing 8

I managed to set up a bloglines account although it was very confusing. I'm trying to paste the link below. Hopefully it will work. I followed the directions and subscribed to ten different feeds.

Week 3 Thing 6

I explored some flickr third party sites. I found that the choices on FD toys seemed fun such as the create your own movie poster and magazine cover using photos. However, I didn't have any good ideas for that, so I just went to Flickr Color Pickr and found a photo of some fish that corresponds to a dark blue, which is my favorite color.

Week 3 Thing 7

The technology related item I have chosen to blog about are mp3 players. I know they have been around now for a few years, but I am still amazed at how awesome they are. I have an mp3 player, which is not an ipod and I love it so much because it allows me to put hundreds of songs I have downloaded on my computer onto it. I find them a lot easier to manage than CD players. They are so much smaller and it is much more convenient to carry them around. In addition you don't have to deal with the hassles of changing CDs. I use my mp3 player a lot especially during hikes and sometimes while I'm at work. What really interests me is how such a small device can hold so much music. I am still amazed by this besides the fact that I've been using one for over a year.
